THERE WAS drama in Abbey Square on Friday when an elderly woman was knocked down as she attempted to cross the road.

The woman was struck by a car as she attempted to cross the road near Enniscorthy Credit Union at around 11 a.m, and an ambulance and Gardai quickly arrived on the scene.

The victim was treated for minor injuries, which included cuts and scratches on her nose and on the side of her head, while the driver of the vehicle was questioned by Gardai.

Gardai are currently investigating the incident, but a Garda spokesperson told The Echo that it is understood the woman did not cross the road correctly.

The spokesperson said that it appeared she failed to use the zebra crossing, instead walking out onto the road, which resulted in the accident.

They reminded locals of the importance of sticking to designated zebra crossings when crossing the road and urged people to be extra careful.
