A 50th anniversary is something to be proud of under any circumstances but when it involves a group or society in the performing arts sector it always seems to be a little bit more special.
This year Campile Pantomime Society will celebrate such a milestone with a vibrant production of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
Over the last five decades the society has staged 34 different pantos which is something the organisation is very proud of.
Commenting on the significance of 2015 for the society a spokesperson for the organisation said this year promises to be “truly special” for all concerned: “Here in our parochial hall the walls have resounded to all the sounds and scenes associated with Pantomime. There is a very long and varied history since the first production in 1965 [when] by today’s standards, 50 years on, it would have been quite a simple show.”
The first show was ‘Snow White’ and was produced, musically directed and costumed by Fr. Brendan Kehoe who was the curate in Horeswood at the time.
Fr. Kehoe went on to produce further shows in the hall during his time in the parish.
The Campile Pantomime Society enjoys an enviable reputation for the quality of its productions but it’s a reputation that was hard earned through the dedication and determination from cast and crew members down through the years.
“Through the years there have been a number of different producers directing and using their imaginations to portray each fairytale story bringing it to life to entertain young and old alike,” said the spokesperson.
Work is ongoing at present to develop a ‘down memory lane’ museum honouring everyone who was or is involved with the society since it began in 1965.
The show will run from Wednesday, January 28, to Sunday, February 1, and will begin at 8 p.m. sharp each night.
