WHILE THE turkey may be long eaten and the presents well opened, Fr. Jim Fegan and Rev. Arthur Minion waited until after Christmas to deliver their last few presents to seven worthy charities.
The dynamic duo took part in the 16th annual Four Day Christmas Fast before Christmas with all proceeds going to charity. A total of €45,000 was raised and split between the groups.
St. Vincent de Paul received €20,000, Ozanam House received a donation of €6,000, South East Radiotherapy Trust received €6,000, Family Life Services, Wexford received €6,000, Wexford Women’s Refuge was the recipient of €5,000, Irish Cancer Research received €1,000 and the Simon Community in Waterford received €1,000 in funds.
The presentations took place in St. Iberius Church. The fast has run for the past 16 years and over that time has raised thousands for local charities. This year’s income of €45,000 is among the biggest amount ever raised.
A spokesperson for the presbytery said: “Both Fr. Fegan and Rev. Minion were overwhelmed by the generosity of Wexford people again this year, even in the current climate. People donated or stopped to talk and show their support.”
For four days, the two men stood outside of St. Iberius Church on the fast, allowing themselves just some soup at the end of the day and water throughout the day.
