The body of a local man in his mid-60’s has been recovered from Courtown Harbour.

It is believed to be the body of a man reported missing in the locality since 8 a.m. today.

Divers from the Garda Water Unit joined forces with the Courtown-Arklow Coast Guard Service and the Courtown Harbour RNLI in a search after a car entered the harbour earlier today.

The alarm was raised just before mid-day when it was noticed that chain had been broken on the south pier.

A completely submerged car was quickly located and emergency services had been keeping a vigil while awaiting the arrival of lifting equipment.
