“IT WAS a great win and we had a fabulous time. We were up against stiff opposition from Antrim, Roscommon, Cavan and Mayo, but it went our way,” said a delighted Paddy Byrne, Chairman of Askamore Community Council, as Askamore celebrated success at the National Community and Council Awards organised by the Local Authority Members Association.
Le Chéile Park took first place in the Best Public Park category in the prestigious competition held in Dublin and presided over by RTE star, Miriam O’Callaghan.
Mary Donohoe (secretary), Paula Mulroe and Aileen Kavanagh, joined Paddy Byrne at the awards ceremony.
“It is great for the area and for the people who worked at the project, workers from TUS and the RSS, and the volunteers from the committee,” stated Mr Byrne.
The project was 75% grant aided by Wexford Local Development (WLD), while the remaining 25% was raised through fundraising in the community.
