AN ENNISCORTHY woman is warning people to be careful online after images of her and her friends were unwillingly posted to a sickening pornographic site recently.
The woman, who is a mother of a young child, wishes to remain anonymous but is hoping by sharing her story that web users will become more vigilant.
She says shortly after New Years she received an urgent message from an old friend that she hadn’t spoken to in a while asking her to ring her.
“When I called she proceeded to tell me that a friend of hers had come across some pictures of her on a porn site,” the woman told The Echo.
“When she looked into it, she realised that there was a lot of local girls she knew also on this site, with their names and tag lines asking for people to create “fakes” (photo shopping their heads on to pornographic pictures) and to make degrading comments about them.”
The disgusted woman said her old friend got in touch immediately when she recognised a picture of her.
“The most sickening part to me was that one of my good “friends” had put the images up,” she commented. “He had pictures of himself also on this site and had his own personal details!”
She said that when she looked at her former friend’s graphic profile, she was in shock at what he had done:
“He had been doing it over a long space of time, and had been taking the photographs off of our Facebook page, pinning them up there and looking for people to make perverted comments about us.
“We called the guards telling them what had happened, asking them to enforce some sort of punishment but as we were the ones who posted these pictures online in the first place, there was nothing they could do as we allowed him access to these photos.”
