A FORMER Vodafone employee from Wexford, accused of stealing almost €2 million from the company has been sent forward for trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in February.

Niall Barron,(40) with an address at Ard na Cuan in Wexford town, held the position of head of corporate financial services at the company appeared at Dublin District Court and was served with a book of evidence by a detective from the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation. Books were also served on two co-defendants.

Barron faces multiple charges of attempted theft, attempted deception, deception by inducing Vodafone to make payments to named business entities, and theft of various sums totalling €1,983,000 from the company.

It is alleged that the offences occurred at Vodafone’s Headquarters in Leopardstown, Dublin between 2003 and 2007.

There was no objection to bail and Barron was sent forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for hearing on February 6.
