Anti-water charges protesters were out in force on Gorey’s Main Street today.

Thousands of people braved bitterly cold conditions across the country to protest against water charges just days ahead of the deadline for registration of households for charges on Monday.

Around 200 protesters took to the Main Street in Gorey today which was organised by the Right2Water supporters who proudly displayed their placards and organised the event.

All the marchers were afforded a pleasant reception with applause from onlookers and motorists honking their horns.

Many of the protesters at Gorey travelled to Enniscorthy later in the day where a larger march, numbering about 300, paraded through the town centre and stopped traffic on the N11 for a short time.

The organisers said they were very happy with the turnout and both marches were conducted in a safe and dignified manner.
