THE RELEASE of rescue and launch statistics for the lifeboat crews around the country recently marked the end of a busy 2014 for the five RNLI branches in Co. Wexford.

A total of 56 launches took place in Wexford over the 12 months of 2014 with 94 people rescued as a result.

In Wexford’s RNLI base, the entire crew of the Wexford RNLI got together to review the statistics and socialise. The group included all crew, shore crew, launching authorities, fundraisers and sea safety people, a large group which usually only gets together once every three months.

Branch PRO and helm of the crew, Lorraine Galvin said that the gathering of the group really emphasised the size of their volunteer base in Wexford.

“We have 35 people involved in every aspect of the organisation here and it just shows the number of people required to run a branch. There are five branches in Co. Wexford so I’d say there are upwards of 180 volunteers with the RNLI in the county.”
