AN ENNISCORTHY family has spoken of its relief after it was reunited with its beloved dog of nine years over the weekend – days after a Co. Wexford veterinary clinic lost him.

Michelle Moorehouse of Templeshanbo contacted The Echo on Friday to say her Labrador Jack was missing and that she was offering a reward for his safe return.

She explained that the family left the dog into the vets on Tuesday morning for an X-ray, as Jack had developed a limp recently.

Unbeknownst to the Moorehouse family, a trainer at the veterinary clinic had brought the dog for a walk around 3 p.m later that day, and managed to lose him when Jack broke away.

“We didn’t find out about it until we contacted them the next day,” Ms. Moorehouse said. “It’s a shock, he’s a big part of our family”.

However, there was good news to come, as the following day, on Saturday, a member of the public found Jack in Ballyduff.

“We’re so relieved,” Michelle commented. “I’m not angry anymore, the vets apologised, and right now I’m just very happy – as is my partner and little girl Katie.”

She said that Jack was equally thrilled to be back in familiar settings after his four-day adventure, but that he was “a bit nervous and starving”.

But she added that the family will happily nurse him back to health and he will be spoiled over the coming days.
