A man narrowly missed losing his life after being trapped in a burning apartment block at Market Square, Gorey, last Friday night.
The alarm was raised at three minutes to midnight when two units of Gorey Fire Service rushed to a fire in an apartment above a shop.
The apartment was found to be unoccupied, however, the smoke had entered another apartment across the corridor in the same building.
A man was seen at a window calling for help by some customers in a bar across the road and alerted the fire service.
When the fire service got to the trapped man he was found to be unconscious and CPR and First Aid was carried out until the arrival of an ambulance.
The man was suffering from smoke inhalation and had regained consciousness before removal from the scene by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital.
“This was a serious incident. The man owes his life to the lads in the pub across the road,” said a spokesperson for the Wexford County Fire Service.
