MONDAY MARKED the 17th anniversary of the disappearance of young 19-year-old Fiona Sinnott who disappeared following a night out with friends on February 9, 1998.
A spokesperson for the Gardai said that the investigation into the disappearance and believed murder of Ms. Sinnott is still active.
They said: “We are still appealing to anyone with information to come forward and assist us. We do feel that there are people out there who know where she is and what happened and perhaps enough time has passed for them to feel more comfortable about coming forward.”
Ms. Sinnott, who was the mother of an 11-month old at the time, had been socialising in Butlers’ Pub in Broadway on the last night that she was seen. She had been living in a rented house in Bridgetown and also at her parents’ home near Our Lady’s Island.
Her disappearance was not reported until over a week later and a large scale search followed which uncovered a number of black bags with documents belonging to Ms. Sinnott inside.
Despite an extensive investigation, arrests and interviews, there is still no definitive answer as to what happened to the 19-year-old mother.
To compound the family’s grief, a special memorial plaque which was erected in Our Lady’s Island in memory of Ms. Sinnott has been stolen twice over the past number of years.
