AN AMBITIOUS new exhibition of photography, detailing the effects of conflict between Israel and Palestine, will open at Wexford Arts Centre on Thursday night and is expected to draw huge attention from the county and beyond.

In a departure from his usual type of work, Echo photographer Jim Campbell will present ‘Divided’, a 52-picutre exhibition chronicling his three trips to the area, the people he met and the events he witnessed.

Against a background of armed soldiers amongst civilians, children scrambling for toys and walking barefoot through rough streets, Jim’s photographs encompass the stories of families separated and struggling in a land divided. Reflecting the lives of those surrounded and shaped by discord, the images capture the daily tensions felt on both sides of the seemingly never-ending conflict.

Speaking about the exhibition, Jim said: “It’s something I always wanted to do – photojournalistic type of work involving countries of conflict documenting people who are worse off than us, living a life of misery because of that conflict. It was an ambitious dream and challenge.”

‘Divided’ will run in the lower gallery of Wexford Arts Centre from Friday, February 13 to Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. daily. The launch, which will be performed by Echo editor Tom Mooney, takes place on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
