81-year-old James Brennan was killed in a hit-and-run incident last month

ONE MONTH on from the horrific smash outside Enniscorthy that claimed the life of 81-year-old James Brennan, a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The man in his 30s was detained by gardai in the Wicklow Town area this morning.

He is currently detained at Enniscorthy Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardai in Enniscorthy are investigating the circumstances of Mr Brennan’s death on January 12, on the N11 at Ballylough, Ferns at around 10.30pm.

James ‘Jim’ Brennan was killed and his passenger Bernie Weafer (60) so badly injured that she could not attend his funeral after a stolen car ploughed into his vehicle, as the couple travelled home from bingo in Courtown.

Mr. Brennan, from Ardcross, Cherryorchard, Enniscorthy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot before stealing another car.
