A 24-YEAR-OLD Lithuanian man was arrested and charged after the car he was driving was detected carrying a quantity of cigarettes valued at just over €17,000.

As a result of routine profiling, officers from Revenue’s Customs Service yesterday seized 34,200 cigarettes with a retail value of €17,100 at Rosslare Europort.

The Revenue x-ray scanner revealed the NZ Gold Super Slim cigarettes which were concealed in the floor of a Lithuanian registered car that had come in on a ferry from France.

The man was remanded in custody to appear again at Wexford District Court on Monday, February 16.
