Five people rescued from burning building at Enniscorthy .

Five men had a lucky escape when a man jumped from a window after his room filled with smoke in an apartment and alerted four others at Templeshannon, Enniscorthy, this afternoon.

The alarm was raised just after 3 pm when smoke went through the four storey building that consists of apartments.

One man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after being rescued by fire-fighters using breathing apparatus. Four others were rescued by the fire service.

Two units of Enniscorthy fire service, two ambulances, GardaĆ, ESB and County Council employees were called to the scene.

It is thought that the fire may have originated in a cavity of the adjoining building and is most likely the outcome of an electrical fault.
