A VOTE on the takeover of Ferrycarrig Park by the Wexford Football League and the Football Association of Ireland was passed comfortably following a vote among the 57 clubs in the county.

Club delegates were asked to email their votes to the League Secretary Gertrude Rowlands before 8 p.m. on Sunday night and Ms. Rowlands confirmed to this newspaper that the proposal from the FAI had been carried quite comfortably though the final breakdown of numbers were not available at the time of going to print.

She confirmed that the majority had voted for the proposal put forward by the FAI and said that the move would unite both League of Ireland soccer and junior soccer in Wexford, making the grounds an official headquarters for all soccer in the county.

A receiver was appointed to Ferrycarrig Park in October 2013 due to a mortgage debt on the property which was registered to M&J Wallace, the construction company which was owned by local TD Mick Wallace.

Questions had been raised over some of the stipulations in the FAI proposal regarding the future of Ferrycarrig Park which would agree the purchase of the soccer facility for €460,000 from the receiver. Under that, the Wexford Football League, which is made up of 57 football clubs in the county, would pay €300,000 upfront and the FAI would pay €160,000.
