THE CBS Secondary School in New Ross is to get six new classrooms after funding was sanctioned by the Government.
The announcement was made on Friday and a delighted school Principal, Pat Rossiter, told The Echo that it will ensure the tradition of excellence associated with education in the school will be enhanced going forward.
Min. Paul Kehoe was at the school on Friday to make the announcement and Mr. Rossiter thanked him for his work and support in securing the funding.
“We are very grateful to the officials in the planning section of the DES and to Min. Paul Kehoe for his strong support,” said Mr. Rossiter.
“It indicates the progress the school has made in recent years,” he added.
Next year the school will have 320 students enrolled and Mr. Rossiter said the expansion of the school’s facilities will give the CBS “the opportunity to provide for the education of the children of New Ross and surrounding area”.
The refurbishment of the school will see it develop state-of-the-art facilities including a new science laboratory.
“We have taken a long term view of our school and the educational needs in the area,” said Mr. Rossiter.
He also said the development will present an opportunity to reconfigure the present layout and plan into the future.
“There will be six new classrooms and a science lab,” he said.
The new facilities will replace three existing pre-fab classrooms.
