THERE WAS closure for the local family members of murdered Elaine O’Hara at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin after the man accused of her murder received a unanimous verdict of guilty.

Architect Graham Dwyer of Kerrymount Close, Foxrock was charged with the murder of the 36-year-old childcare worker on August 22, 2012 after her remains were found in Kilakee Mountain, Rathfarnham on September 13, 2013. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.

It was the State’s case that Dwyer stabbed the victim for his own sexual gratification. Judge Tony Hunt told the court that he “110% agreed” with the jury’s decision based on the evidence. Dwyer now faces life in prison though there is still a possibility that he will appeal the conviction.

Ms. O’Hara is the daughter of Francis O’Hara who is originally from Parnell Street, Wexford town. A number of family members still reside in Co. Wexford. Mr. O’Hara was the first witness to give evidence in the prosecution case.

The defendant also has ties to Wexford having taken part in a model airplane competition in Coolgarrow in August 2013, just a year after the date of the murder.
