FOUR WEXFORD groups will compete in this year’s All Ireland Amateur Drama All Ireland Finals, with two groups qualifying for the Open and two for the Confined sections, the latter of which will take place in Kilmuckridge.

In the Open section, Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group took second place on the table with four wins, two second and two third places and a host of other acting and production awards. Their play ‘Stolen Child’ by Yvonne Quinn and Bairbre Ni Chaoimh focused on the story of a young woman trying to locate her mother, from whom she was separated at birth.

Also in the Open section, Kilmuckridge Drama Group, in their first year in the division, qualified with their rollicking production of Jimmy Murphy’s ‘Kings of the Kilburn High Road’. The group recorded two wins, two seconds and two thirds during their stint on the circuit.

In the Confined section, Kilrush Drama Group secured an All Ireland spot after recording three wins and five seconds with their production of Billy Roche’s ‘Poor Beast in the Rain’. The group will perform in Kilmuckridge with the hope of claiming more silverware.

Finally, Ballycogley Players with their production of ‘There Goes the Bride’ by Ray Cooney and John Chapman qualified for the Confined All Ireland after they picked up two wins and four thirds on their travels. They will perform again in the Dun Mhuire on April 6 and 9 ahead of their All Ireland show on April 11.
