135 ENTRIES have been received for Tuesday’s Wexford races where the horses will run left-handed for the first time in nearly 60 years and if the experiment is a success it could become a permanent change.
“The racecourse was originally a seven furlong circuit on 46 acres, now it is 10 furlongs on over 100 acres, so the time is right to try this,” said Michael Murphy, track manager.
Two big screens will be included and Michael Murphy is confident: “This will bring the action closer to racegoers and should add to the atmosphere. The horses will sweep up past the stands and the winning post will be about 200 metres past where it was before.”
