Fr. Jim Fegan, who is moving from Wexford after 27 years, to take up a role as parish priest in Ballindaggin.
AFTER 27 years of serving in Wexford town, Fr. Jim Fegan is headed for new pastures as he takes up a role as Parish Priest in Ballindaggin.
After serving for a long period as the ‘Head Waiter’ as it is known amongst the clergy, Fr. Fegan was informed last week that he would be taking up the position after the passing of Fr. John Sinnott from that parish in March.
Speaking to this newspaper, Fr. Fegan said that he left Wexford town with 27 years of very fond memories: “I was blessed to be part of so many people’s lives and I walked with them through good and bad times.”
Highlights included his celebration of 25 years in the priesthood as well as the 150th anniversary celebration of the Twin Churches in 2008 which was, he said, “a wonderful week of celebration.”
He added that he had enjoyed being involved in so many sectors of Wexford town life, from musical circles to charitable organisations and he said he was glad to be continuing in his roles with the Loreto Secondary School, where he is the chaplain, and as Chairperson of the Family Life Services.
He will also remain on the Enterprise Board and Hospital Board.
Indeed, charity is part of the Dublin native’s legacy in Wexford town but he will, unfortunately, not be visible on the main street of Wexford this Christmas for the four-day fast.
“I will have to put pressure on my successor to carry on that role,” remarked Fr. Fegan, cheekily referring to his friend and colleague, and the new parish administrator Fr. Aodhán Marken, who gave an emotional speech at his colleague’s final mass in Rowe Street on Sunday.
