Olympian and world class athlete, John Treacy, currently Chief Executive Officer of the Sports Council of Ireland, performed the official opening of the new Enniscorthy Sports Hub this afternoon.
Cllr Barbara Anne Murphy, Cathaoirleach, Enniscorthy Municipal District, welcomed everybody to the official opening of the Enniscorthy Sports Hub, which she described as “a much anticipated day in the history of our town and our county.”
“This brand new state-of-the-art sports track is a 400 metre, eight-lane, all-weather running track, long jump and high jump areas, steeplechase , and the centre in-field area and that are all floodlit,” said Cllr Murphy.
“This is one of the greatest days in the history of athletics in County Wexford,” declared Toddy Moore, President of Athletics Wexford, who has been involved in athletics since 1951.
High Performance Chairperson of Athletics Ireland, Bríd Golden, said it was a huge honour “to be here at the opening of a wonderful facility.”
The track has been opened and tested for the county track and field championships, held there in recent weeks, and a bid will be made for the Leinster championships in the near future.
