GOVERNMENT CHIEF whip and local TD Paul Kehoe is receiving death threats via social media.

However, talking exclusively to The Echo, Minister Kehoe says he refuses to be intimidated by the ongoing harassment.

Minister Kehoe, the father of three children, revealed that he has been threatened with having his  family home set on fire.

“I am still getting abuse on Facebook and get continuous emails with people telling me what they are going to do to me,” said the Minister, who is heading a cyber bullying information campaign for local schools.

Apparently, the worst of the abuse took place at the height of the controversy over water charges, which the Minister’s party Fine Gael was instrumental in introducing.

The Minister is regularly confronted by huge crowds outside his office at Weafer St on Saturday mornings.

“I often could have 300 people outside my office with loudspeakers, shouting abuse at me. Once, when I had my daughter with me, the abuse didn’t stop. My wife has not been harassed but some other family members have been threatened. It is very disturbing,” said Minister Keogh.
