The doors will reopen and normal business will resume at the Gorey branch of Dunnes Stores tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

This is welcome news in the town and relief that full trading will return to Gorey Shopping Centre five days after Dunnes shut its doors to customers.

Workers at Dunnes Stores in Gorey had been turning up for work and getting paid by the company even though the store at Gorey Shopping Centre closed its doors at the end of business last Thursday night. .

In a bizarre move, 100 workers were called to a meeting around 6 p.m. and told of the ‘immediate closure’, of the Gorey store, but no explanation was forthcoming.

The closure related to ongoing issues concerning the decision of Dunnes Stores to open a door leading directly to the surface car park allowing customers to bypass the smaller traders on the mall, breaching legal obligations.
