LOCAL FILMMAKER Eamonn Colfer will swap his clapperboard and camera for stage lighting next week when his two self-penned and self-directed one-act plays will premier at Wexford Arts Centre.
The plays ‘Montauk Point’ and ‘Within the Veil’ are a new departure for Eamonn who is better known for his documentary and short films, under the banner of Hook Movies. His latest short ‘No Hell’ was selected for official screening at this year’s Fastnet festival in Cork.
‘Montauk Point’ focuses on the interrogation of a soldier for his role in an atrocity he cannot remember. The play stars Paddy Ross as the soldier, while the omniscient, unseen interrogator is played by Ann O’Gorman, a stalwart of the Wexford theatre scene.
‘Within the Veil’ tells the story of two blind men whose tenuous friendship is tested by a manipulative State official. The two central characters, Blyther and Wasbaugh, are played by Lee Kelly and Ronán Byrne respectively. The state official is played by Andrew Smith.
The plays run on June 11, 12, and 13 at Wexford Arts Centre at 8 p.m. Tickets are €10 and can be booked through the Arts Centre. Both plays are intended for a mature audience.
