A decade of discussion and negotiation and planning between the local authority and the leaders of the Masonic Lodge has had a successful conclusion with an extra 28 car park spaces made available within walking distance of Gorey’s main trading areas.
Speaking at the official opening, Cathaoirleach of Gorey Municipal Council, Cllr John Hegarty, summed up the matter adequately when he said: “This new car park here at the Masons Lodge is a really good example of how collaboration between the local authority and local groups can add so much not only to the facilities of the group itself but also benefit for the wider community.”
It is ideally situated, close to both the Main Street and the Civic Centre and Library, and will provide much needed extra parking spaces, close to the heart of Gorey.
Cllr Hegarty said: “It is a really positive sign for a market town like Gorey that, even during the recession of recent years, while other towns in the region have really struggled, Gorey has remained a vibrant place to do business.”
