JACK GUINEY’S prospects of returning to the Wexford senior hurling fold this year are unclear after team-boss Liam Dunne remained non-committal on the issue following Sunday’s heavy loss to Kilkenny.
Guiney was removed from the squad in the build-up to the game after an apparent breach of discipline, when he went drinking.
And when the manager was asked whether or not Guiney’s exclusion is long-term or short-term, Dunne responded: “If we don’t perform in two weeks’ time (in the Qualifiers), our season is over!”.
He went on to add: “I don’t make rules. I never make rules. We set standards and it is up to a guy to do whatever he wants to do.
“All we (the management) are expecting is for 32, 33 or 34 guys in a panel to row in behind us. Guys have choices. They are amateur players. If a guy doesn’t want to do it, then he moves aside and lets someone else have the opportunity.”
Liam offered a clear hint that he would like to have Jack in his pack though, as he added: “I want my best players available at all times.
“But no one man is bigger than the team,” he warns.
Guiney made his own statement when hitting 4-5 (4-4 from play) for Rathnure in victory over Ferns St. Aidan’s last Thursday.
