JACKIE WILSON sang about love taking him higher and higher but one Wexford man gave the classic crooner a run for his money when he proposed to his girlfriend on board an Aer Lingus flight – 30,000 feet high!

Kevin Breen, originally from Bride Street but now living in Cork, got down on one knee in front of a packed plane of people heading off to Lanzarote on their summer holidays.

“I was going to do this in October but I can’t wait that long,” he said to girlfriend Caroline O’Shea, who is from Cork, before asking her to be his wife, who accepted immediately and sealed the deal with a kiss.

But, in typically Irish fashion she then remarked jokingly: “I’m going to kill you!”

Speaking after returning from their holiday, Kevin told this newspaper that they had had a brilliant holiday in Lanzarote after the excitement of the flight out and the proposal.

Kevin met Caroline when he moved to Cork as she was his next door neighbour and they have been going out for about a year. His family in Wexford runs Breen Contract Cleaning and is well-known in the town.

Kevin explained that he had organised with Aer Lingus in advance of the trip to have champagne and flowers on board for when he popped the question.
