Fine Gael TD for Wexford and Chair of the Oireachtas Finance Committee, Liam Twomey, has announced that he will not stand at the next election.
“It is with a heavy heart I announce that, for family reasons, I will not be standing at the next General Election, said Dr Twomey this morning.
A medical doctor by profession and a native of Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Liam Twomey was elected as an Independent member for the Wexford constituency in the General Election of 2002.
In September 2004, he became a member of the Fine Gael Party.
After losing his seat at the 2007 General Election, he became a member of Seanad Éireann. He regained a seat in Dáil Éireann at the 2011 General Election.
“It has been a huge honour to represent the people of Wexford throughout my political career and I thank them for their support. I will continue in my duties representing my constituents until the date of the election,” said Deputy Twomey.
