The ‘Beat on the Street’ has started and the late night open-air music on Main Street featuring Key West, Hogan, and other artists is expected to attract thousands to the Gorey Market House Festival tonight.
Saturday’s highlight is a Family Fun Extravaganza at Gorey Town Park from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday will experience a street market with vintage machinery, stalls, crafts, food and side attractions throughout the afternoon.
Local artists will be on the open-air stage from 3 p.m. while the headline act, Seo Linn, will go on stage at 8.30 p.m.
The official launch of the Market House Festival took place in Gorey Library last night.
Cllr Malcolm Byrne, Chairman of Gorey Municipal Council, launched the festival highlights which included an exhibition by Philip Noonan, the local talent from Gorey Photographic Club, and the festival itself.
Cllr John Hegarty, in his capacity as Chairman of the Festival Committee, outlined the programme of events and said there was plenty for everyone and he hoped people would have an enjoyable experience in Gorey.
He claimed that events not to be missed included Saturday’s family event in the Town Park, Sunday’s food and crafts and vintage day on the Main St., and to take in the ‘Gorey Heritage Trail’ walking tour.
The 41st Gorey Art Circle exhibition shared its treasures with the festival.
At the end of the speeches the festival began with Tomas Keegan, Pat Kavanagh, and a junior team of talented Comhaltas members setting the pace in music and song with traditional airs and tunes.
