Eoghan, Devin and Feargal check in from Uzbekistan 17 days into their trip to Mongolia.

A WEXFORD man who is part of a three-person team taking on a 10,000 mile trip to Mongolia in a Nissan Micra has been chronicling the group’s progress online and they are currently in Kazakhstan with ten days of travelling to go.

Team Gas Craic, made up of Feargal Hynes (23) and his friends Devin Finneran from Roscommon and Eoghan Murphy from Galway, set out on July 18 to take part in the Mongol Rally, with the aim of promoting the work of Headstrong, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.

Crossing 18 countries, some without even a road to drive on, is a daunting task but one that is, so far, not causing too much grief to the trio.

After six days of online silence the group were back on Facebook early last week to give their followers an update. The trio had spent six days in Iran and Turkmenistan where the social media site was banned but had now arrived in Uzbekistan where they spent the following few days driving.

Prior to this, they had driven in a convoy through Iran after camping on the border and going through border control the next day which took seven hours.

At present, the group is in Kazakhstan and is in constant contact with home.
