A large crowd were waiting in Gorey’s Main Street to welcome back a group of cyclists from Naomh Éanna GAA Club who were completing a four-day 530km charity bike ride from Malin Head in Donegal.
After a very tough four days on the bike cycling over 530km from Malin Head to Gorey, the cycle team were very glad to have completed the cycle.
The team managed to raise over €42,000 with half of that amount being donated to Cancer Charities.
The cycle proved to be a tough experience over the four days where the riders faced high winds and heavy rain on Friday while cycling from Bundoran to Longford.
Sunday, having set out from Portlaoise that morning, and as they entered Wexford through Bunclody, and took in Ferns and Camolin on the way home, conditions were dry, but much of the journey was against a strong wind.
Despite the weather conditions everyone remained in good spirit and completed the journey.
Amongst the cyclists was All-Ireland hurling hero of ’96, Ger Cushe, who said: “It was tough at times, but it was worthwhile. We got a great welcome back in Gorey. That was nice.”
Naomh Éanna would like to thank all the cyclists, support team, the general public and all who donated generously to their fundraising efforts.
The following were the cyclists and support team, Tony Molloy, Ger Cushe, Mick Stokes, Louis Cullen, Podge Cronin, Michelle Stokes, Carol Molloy, Mag Cushe, Malachy White, Declan O’Toole, John O’Brien (Park), Niall Kirwin, Michael Bernie, Paddy Myler, Jack Kavanagh, Pat Doyle, Linda Cronin, Siobhan Doyle, Colm (Skinner) Browne, Nessa White, Sandra Bernie, Noreen Stafford, Nicky Stafford, Gary Molloy, Eoin Molloy, Jack Cushe, Luke Willoughby, Fab O’Brien, Jamie Cullen, Aidan Quirke, Seamus O’Donnell, Carol Cullen, Larry Cullen, Louise Doyle, Billy Molloy, Barry Kinsella, Dawn Myler, Brian Willoughby, Allison Willoughby, Grainne Quirke and Lar Redmond.
