A DARK cloud hung over Wexford on Sunday afternoon as news emerged of the sudden and tragic death of 26 year-old father of one Michael “Mick” Driscoll of Belvedere Grove, Wexford.

Mick’s body was discovered at his home place on Sunday morning and Gardaí have said they are treating his death as a personal tragedy and are not suspicious. His death occurs almost exactly nine years since his brother Billy who was tragically found dead also at the age of 26 at the family’s Belvedere Grove home in August of 2006. Mick was just eleven days away from his 27th birthday.

Born and reared in the Belvedere Grove area of town, Mick was the beloved son of Helena and Mick and a brother to Pamela and Deborah. He was pre-deceased by his brother Billy. A doting father of one, Mick leaves behind his young daughter Leah.

Mick was a former pupil at Wexford Vocational College and was extremely well thought of in the local community. For the past couple of days, tributes have poured in on his Facebook page from friends and family who are clearly shaken by his passing.

Described as a “true gentlemen” friends described how Mick had a “heart of gold” and always had time for a chat with his large circle of friends around the town.

Mick is reposing at Macken’s Funeral Home, Distillery Road from 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) with removal at 8 p.m. to the Church of the Annunciation, Clonard. His funeral mass will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards at St Ibar’s Cemetery Crosstown.

Mick is survived by his loving parents, sisters, daughter, grandmother Angela, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and many friends. May he rest in peace.
