AROUND FIVE years of work was mindlessly destroyed at the beautiful garden on the way into Castledockrell Village on Friday night after vandals ripped up trees, shrubs and flowers and destroyed what had been a beautiful focal point for the village.
The garden, which welcomes people into the village, had been a source of pride in the area and a lot of hard work and money was put into it by the local Castledockrell Amenity Group. However, this came to an end on Friday night or the early hours of Saturday morning when vandals pulled up every plant in sight and fired them over the ditch, leaving the group having to start again from scratch.
“It’s just really disappointing,” said Frances Dreelan of the Castledockrell Amenity Group. “I would say it had taken about five years to get to the point it was at. It was really just coming into its own. Now five years work has been destroyed, probably in about five minutes. It’s just really sad because we had got great compliments on the garden and a lot of time and money went into it.”
