Kilanerin is leading the way in providing social housing units and the village north of Gorey was the centre of attention when the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin, T.D., performed the official opening of Taobh Na Coille, a six unit of modern construction standards and energy efficiency.

Minister Howlin said he was delighted to be asked to open a wonderful facility and it was a great honour to come to Kilanerin “on a community day.”

 

Senator Michael D’Arcy, who was given high praise for his assistance with sourcing funding and keeping faith with the project, recalled that it was a long running project.

However, he was delighted at the completion of scheme, relieved to see it officially open, and he thanked everybody who made it all happen, especially John Bardon and Annie Kent and the enthusiastic and energetic members of the Kilanerin Sheltered Housing Association.

In a most inspirational speech, Michael Wharton, speaking on behalf of the residents.

Tom Enright, Chief Executive Officer of Wexford County Council, said the housing at Kilanerin was an excellent demonstration of community spirit, it is well designed and there is a holistic approach and he congratulated the chairman and his committee for their dedication and hard work.

Dignataries present included Cllr John Hegarty, Vice-Chairman of Gorey Municipal District Council, Cllrs Robbie Ireton, Joe Sullivan and Anthony Donohoe, Amanda Byrne, District Manager, John Carley, Director of Services, and staff of the Housing Department of Wexford County Council.

John Bardon, Chairman of the Association, welcomed everybody to the opening, with a special welcome for the Minister, public representatives, Council staff, and most importantly, the residents of the new six-house development.
