Funding will be needed to upgrade the signs at the entrance to Ballycanew village after winning the Tidy Towns County Award for the fourth successive year when the winners were announced at a special prize-giving ceremony in The Helix, Dublin, today.

This is a wonderful achievement for the community and is a fine reward for unrelenting improvement and tidiness over a number of years.

North Wexford has had the tidiest community for decades now, eight in a row for Craanford, and for the last four years, Ballycanew is Co. Wexford’s flagship village, and this year increased its marks by three to 306.

Other North Wexford entrants fared well too, in fact, every area increased its marks with Hollyfort gaining the most – 10 marks – followed by Courtown Harbour on six.

Camolin re-entered after a five year absence and rowed in with 242 marks, five marks of an increase each for Ballygarett, Kilanerin, Askamore and Hollyfort.

Four extra for Coolgreany, and three more than last year for Ballyduff and Gorey.

RESULTS; CATEGORY A: Ballyduff 280 (+3).

CATEGORY B: Ballycanew 306 (+3), Ballygarrett 296 (+5), Kilanerin 281 (+5), Askamore 278 (+5), Courtown Harbour 227 (+6), Hollyfort 230 (+10). Camolin 242.

CATEGORY C: Coolgreany 266 (+4).

CATEGORY G: Gorey 288 (+3).
