Corrigan’s Londis has reopened for business and normal trading has resumed in Kilmuckridge village after the family business was closed down last Monday week when bailiffs and members of a security firm descended on the premises.
Acting on behalf of the Receiver, the security firm took possession of the premises on foot of a High Court order.
Meanwhile, hundreds people attended a public rally in Kilmuckridge last Sunday in support of the owners and staff affected by the Corrigan’s Londis closure.
The protestors alleged that the banks, the bailiff and K-Tech security failed to follow legitimate and established procedures and acted illegally when they entered the premises under the cover of darkness.
Sinn Féin’s General Election candidate, Cllr Johnny Mythen, addressing the rally said: “Twenty-two staff, their families, the Corrigan family, the suppliers and the vital Meals on Wheels Service are all affected by this illegal commando-style takeover of a local village shop in the middle of the night.”
Cllr Mythen demanded that the staff need immediate social welfare support and the shop needs to be re-opened.
