A group representing the survivors of the Carrickmines fire, has said the grieving families have made an emotional journey back to south Co Dublin.

The Southside Travellers action group, said the bereaved families are satisfied with their emergency accommodation.

Ten people, including five children, lost their lives in the fire at a halting site on the Glenamuck Road on October 10.

The 15 people who survived the blaze have now moved into five three-bed mobile homes located at a council owned car-park.

The emergency halting site was set up by the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council on the Ballyogan Road.

Director of the Southside Travellers Action Group Geraldine Dunne, has said the surviving families are missing their loved ones during this difficult time.

“The families are back in Dublin, it was an emotional journey back from Wexford yesterday when they moved in as it was very visible that you know there was a whole family unit missing.

“They are in the new site and they are satisfied to stay there temporarily to try and get back into some normality amongst themselves.”
