Pedestrians and cyclists are being reminded to be safe and be seen.
The Road Safety Authority have issued the warning as clocks were turned back by an hour this morning.
As a result evenings will become darker earlier.
Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority, walkers and cyclists should wear hi-vis jackets and lights.
“There are obvious dangers now that the clocks have gone back early this morning,” said Farrell.
“If people are out walking or cycling we just don’t want to get caught out in the dark. It’s so important at this time of year to carry a torch or wear the hi-vis jacket if you can. ”
