"It was with great pride that I was part of building the successful Irish program over the past number of years and I hope to do the same with USA boxing."
USA Boxing Executive Director Mike Martino said at the unveiling that the USA were lucky to get such an accomplished coach and he hailed the Wexford man's record as an elite coach.
"Coach Walsh brings extensive experience and knowledge with a proven record of success on the international boxing stage,"
"He provides great leadership and stability for our female athletes, particularly the resident boxers at the Olympic Training Center. His commitment to Olympic-style boxing is evident in the impact he has had on the Irish boxing program."
"We look forward to integrating Coach Walsh and his international experience with personal coaches across the United States who are responsible for developing and guiding our elite athletes." he continued.
Walsh's official appointment comes just after the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) denied that there had been a campaign to 'oust' him from his position with Ireland.
Earlier today, Minister of State for Sport Michael Ring, said he hoped the accounts given at today's Oireachtas Committee would put this issue to bed once and for all.
