UPDATE (1.21pm): Taoiseach Enda Kenny said that he hopes decisions will be made on rent certainty next week.
Mr Kenny has denied that there’s a disagreement between the Finance Minister and the Environment Minister Alan Kelly over the measures.
“I chair the meetings, and as Minister Kelly confirmed himself publically, there is no difference, no row between himself and Michael Noonan here,” he said.
“So whatever way you want to report that, let me confirm to you that that’s the position.
“There are a number of serious issues here that do need to be dealt with. Critical is the supply of housing, an obviously the Government don’t want to do anything that would make the situation worse than applies at the moment.”
The Tánaiste has said she is confident agreement can be reached on rent regulations.
Inter-departmental talks are continuing today about helping low income families with rents - including the possibility of introducing rent certainty.
Tánaiste Joan Burton has said she thinks an agreement can be reached to tackle the issue of rising rents
“In relation to the whole area of regulating rent obviously the discussions are ongoing, I am very confident that we will have an agreement which will help people in the renting sector.”
