A young Cork Doctor, inspired by his patients, is going to cycle the length of Ireland today to raise funds for suicide prevention.

Dr Pat O'Connor will set off from Malin Head on his bicycle at 2pm this afternoon in the hopes of reaching Mizen Head by the same time tomorrow.

Despite having only bought the bike six weeks ago he has said it is in aid of a good cause.

“My experience with patients that I have met on the wards and seen families that have been directly affected by suicide and severe depression, I have become quite touched by it,” Mr O’Connor said.

“The great work that Pieta House do in Cork and with the two together I am hoping to do this cycle to create awareness for and to raise funds for Pieta House.”
