A number of houses were evacuated in west Dublin overnight after a viable suspect device was found in a private house.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived at the scene in Blanchardstown shortly after 8pm when they were alerted by gardaí.

It is reported an arrest was made at the scene and a fifteen year old is being detained at Blanchardstown Garda station under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

Allegedly the device was not intended for the location it was found in.

The area was made safe and the suspect device was removed to a military range where it was destroyed this morning.
