TWO YOUNG men were hospitalised after a vicious assault in Enniscorthy Town Centre on Halloween night. The two men had just finished work and were supposedly heading out for the night in their fancy dress costumes when they were set upon by a group of males.
Shockingly, the incident took place between 10 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. on Saturday night, the time when a lot of pub and nightclub goers would only be heading out for a few drinks. The incident took place at the top of Slaney Street and Gardaí are currently investigating the matter.
Both victims were said to require medical attention and one of them is believed to have suffered a fractured eye socket and was taken to hospital in Dublin where he was not due to be released until today (Tuesday). Enniscorthy Gardaí refused to comment on the incident or the extent of the injuries sustained.“The matter is currently under investigation,” the spokesperson said.
While Enniscorthy Gardaí said they were “kept busy” on Halloween night, the assault was said to have been the only incident of major consequence which took place on what is traditionally one of the busiest nights of the year for emergency services.
