Six boats with their crews from the Tinnaberna fishing community near Kilmuckridge were blown across to Wales during a violent storm.

A seventh boat belonging to John Walsh of Walshfield, trailed their nets as a sea-anchor and made a safe landing in daylight the following day.

It happened 200 years ago today – November 14, 1815 – and today the first memorial to the Tinnaberna Fishermen was unveiled on the beach that was their traditional landing place for herring and other fish.

A memorial stone and a winch used to haul in the boats was unveiled at this remote spot on the Wexford coast.
