Beautiful Kila has a profile in North Wexford that would humble some of the world’s best known celebrities, and she is only four and a half years old, and while her first priority is to write to Santa for a branded Doc McStuffin toy this Christmas, her heartfelt desire is to acquire a permanent home for her Mum, Ciara Mahoney, and her big brother, Dylan.
Kila, who was born with Spina Bfida and Hydrocephalus, but is intellectually bright and creative, lives with her mother, Ciara, and brother, Dylan , (9), and faces Christmas in a cold log cabin holiday home rented by a friend, a temporary home at Donaghmore, Ballygarrett, that must be vacated before Easter.
Facing into Christmas, Kila’s essential physiotherapy equipment is in storage, and in fact, the family belongings is stored at eight different locations!
Speaking exclusively to The Echo, Ciara explained how the log cabin holiday home was rented by a friend, and she is thankful for the generosity, but she insists that it is not suitable for Kila’s disability needs or for winter living.
Ciara went on Wexford County Council’s housing list nine years ago, then was off the list and added on again when little Kila arrived in the family.
“I was offered bed and breakfast, Monday to Friday or shared facilities at the Women’s Refuge!, “ said Ciara, who, when asked about Monday to Friday and where would she go on Saturday and Sunday, she replied: “That is a question I would like to know the answer to!”
