Portlaoise Hospital has stated that lessons have been learned after the High Court approved a final settlement of €9m for a girl injured at birth in the hospital.

Roisin Conroy from Dysart in Portlaoise has cerebral palsy, is wheelchair-bound and can only communicate with her eyes.

The HSE previously apologised for the significant failings in the care of the now-14-year-old.

In a statement from the Dublin Midlands Regional Hospital Group, which Portlaoise Hospital is now a part of, chief executive Susan O'Reilly said changes have been undertaken at the hospital to improve patient care.
