ENNISCORTHY’S DREAM of being home to an Oscar-winning movie took a step closer to becoming a reality today after it was announced that Brooklyn had been nominated for a total of three Oscars.
The film, which was partly shot on the streets of the town in 2014, was given the nod in the Best Film category, but faces stiff opposition from the likes of The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Bridge of Spies.
Meanwhile, there was also a nomination for Saoirse Ronan for her role as Eilis Lacey in the Best Actress category where she will face competition from the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett.
The final nomination for Brooklyn was in the Best Adapted Screenplay section, which clearly recognises the work of both the original author, Enniscorthy native Colm Tóibín, and screenwriter Nick Hornby who did a fine job in adapting the story for the big screen.
The Oscars will take place on February 28th and fingers and toes in Enniscorthy will be crossed in the hopes that Brooklyn cleans up at the far side of the Atlantic.
