Cheque 01 JC04 (1)

A CHARITY Hunt organised by the Killinick Harriers before Christmas has exceeded expectations, raising almost €50,000 for the St. Anne’s Onoclogy Unit in St. Vincent’s Hospital.
The event welcomed 220 riders from hunts all over the country who took to the fields of Tomhaggard and beyond on a wet and mucky Sunday afternoon. Subsequent evening entertainment reeled another chunk of money bringing the total amount raised to €47,740.75.
The event was organised by Philip Hore, Ally Keane and Ciaran Moran, three members of the hunt. Philip (26), a well-known and popular local horseman, has been battling cancer over the past year and it was his idea to host the charity hunt in order to raise money for such a vital service.
A huge crowd attended the recent cheque presentation and Master of the Hunt Johnny Roche said that the club was thrilled with the level of support it had received throughout the planning of the event.
“I want to thank everyone who played their part in making this event such a huge success. From the landowners who gave permission to use their land to the women making tea and sandwiches, everyone pulled together to support this event which was for such a worthy cause.”
He added: “When we started it, we thought we’d raise maybe a few thousand. But it exceeded all expectations and that was down to the great generosity and support of everyone who got involved.”
